Ontario questions

Anyone know of a good CG between Toronto and Sault Ste. Marie? hookups not necessary. Roughly the midpoint or towards Sault Ste. Marie would be best.
Can someone also tell me what gas prices are like in Ca.?
Any one last queston, has anyone looked into taking the ferry between S. Baymouth and Tobermory with a trailer?
Thanks

RE: Buying Used Travel Star 21SSO

Thanks for the information. I'm going to the current owner and go over it again. What should I be looking for in regards to the roof, is there anything that might stand out?
Thanks for the headsup on the tires I'll pass that on.
Normal would be cracks in the old caulking, mine has had some each year since I got it, I'd consider it normal and wouldn't detract from buying the trailer. Bad would be rips or holes in the rubber, I'd probably expect interior damage. I guess you would see patches if it had beeen damaged in the past but I'd only be guesing at what they would look like. Bubbles in the rubber would not be good either but at least they would not have become a leak, yet.
The radio antennas seem to rust pretty quick so that would be normal.
Make sure the tv antenna functions mechanically, see if the AC is cold, and any fans work. That's all I know of up on the roof. I read somewhere the AC covers break or crack but I've not experienced it.

RE: How long does it take to set up your HTT?

15-20 min, only 2 of us so not too much junk.
Dog tied out
Level/unhook/hookup
pull out step
drop the beds down
awning
ground mat
2 chairs and small table
grill comes out of the truck to the picnic table
firewood comes out
setup the thermometer transmitter/reciever
DW makes the bed and in general does whatever she does inside while I do the above.

RE: Mounting to thin plywood walls

I'll have to try the underneath idea, my thermometer won't read thru the walls, I have to put the rx'er in the window and the tx'er on the awning arm!

RE: Buying Used Travel Star 21SSO

Check out this thread on bad tires from Starcraft (if I did the link correctly), the dealer replaced mine after the warrantee had expired as the tire manufacturer made a bad batch. May or may not work for you as I went back to the dealer I bought it from. Someone elsewhere had contacted the tire manufacturer as opposed to an rv dealer and got them sent direct to their home.

RE: Best camping season is just around the corner

I save 3 weeks vacation for after labor day, a week and a half to go. I just love the campgrounds during the week in Sept and Oct and even weekends once Oct rolls around.
The only bad thing about fall... filled up the 2 heating oil tanks today.

RE: Memory Foam Topper

Another Costco, I think it is 2.5" but might be 3". Having an HTT we have to roll it up for traveling, 4" is too big for such. The one we have must be 16" or 18" x 60" when rolled up.

RE: Space Heaters

I tried one of the ceramic jobs but didn't care for it, didn't think I got enough heat out of it. Might just have been the one I bought though as an awfull lot of folks here seem to like them. Bought one of the Vornados, will see how it works out in the next month or so. I tried it in the family room last winter but the room is too big for it. Of course this only helps if you have electric hookups.

RE: Is there such a thing as a comfortable RV folding couch?

I heard the ones with the air mattress in them are great, but I haven't tried one.

RE: Have you had Front Bunk End Water Leaks!!!!

Another non-FR yes. Nothing serious so far like NHCamping. Water comes thru the hinge when driving in the rain and I'm currently chasing a leak somewhere that ends up inside the front bunk door I think, maybe the latch, that showed up during the monsoons we had over the last month or so.
In the non front bunk leak department, I spent this morning resealing the skylight over the tub with eternabond, then got carried away and eternabonded everything on the roof that was eternabondable.
I've got a feeling that leaks are going to drive me away from an htt, been looking around at used Air$tream$.

Bunk door latches

Has anyone removed one of the newer lever style latches for any reason? I'm thinking I may have one that leaks and would like to pull it off and reseal it. If you've done the job is there a 3rd screw at the top of the latch behind the small plastic disk? I don't want to break the plastic disk if that's what it is for no reason.
I'm getting some water in the lower channel that's all rusty. The screws at the inside edge of the bunk are also rusty. I can also see rust stains around the inside bed surface right at the aluminum edging. Like the bunk door is filling up with water or some such. Removed one of the screws on the aluminum and the inner threads are wet. Onlt the screws that are at the bottom when closed upare rusty/wet. Checked the seal via dollar bill, seems fine.
Thanks

RE: True open ocean views on Maine coast???

Hi Everyone!! Next year our family is finally having our family reunion in MA but after the reunion we're heading up the Maine coastline to head up to the family farm in Alexander. Between MA and the Alexander ME destination we want to stay in a couple places for a few days each to travel around and sight see along Rte 1.
Now for my question: Which of the coastline campgrounds has a full view of the ocean?
I have noticed, through my research, that there are many ocean front campgrounds but they are in inlets. Yes, they are by ocean water but they are surrounded by land. We would LOVE to find campgrounds that have full ocean views!!
Thank you!!!
North of Portland everything is on a bay or inlet, your really limiting yourself. All the ocean front CG's I know are on such.

RE: Greasing Bearings

Dexter E-Z Lube directions
You have to look a bit for the EZ lube parts.
FWIW, I greased mine this spring, first time so far, they took a good deal of grease before it started to come out. I put on maybe 3k miles a year.

RE: Winter camping Northern states

Can't say about Chicago but there are a few private CG's open around here in the winter, choice is very limited and only a loop or so would be open. Bathrooms are closed, no water, electric is on, you will have peace and quiet. It's not bad in Nov/Dec if it hasn't snowed heavy yet, in general it's not too cold. Do avoid Jan/Feb other then an occational nice day or 2. March is iffy, usually want to get out but the trailer is buried too deep.
If you go in the winter you may very wellwake up to snow, I'd suggest some sort of chains depending how remote the CG is, they make all types now. How do you think the MH would handle on ice or snow? Do they sell snow boots, shovels and such in Texas?

RE: How Many nights or weekends............

Best I can do is guess, maybe 15-20 nights so far, but another 3 weeks coming up between Sept and Oct which are our favorite months. If it weren't for the trailer we would probably only get away for 2 weeks a year (which is what we got away before we got it) and probably 0 weekends.

RE: Camping Alone

I get a couple weeks more vacation then my wife does and started to take a few days by myself a few years ago. Don't know that I would/could have done it before the kids grew up and moved out, but it sure is nice now. I use the time to go fishing which is not something my wife cares to do. I don't even take the dog. So yes, it's probably selfish, but do it anyway.
I'm taking a week in early Oct which is the last week for state parks around here, my wife will soin me on the weekends.

RE: Generator size to operate a Flat pannel TV

A 650 is pretty small, which is good and bad, it'll be pretty quiet (comparatively) but won't handle much (650 watts). You really need to look up the power consumption of the TV, I found a 32" that uses only 150W and a 52" that uses 700W.
